Frequently Asked Questions

Note: As I am typing this before really any questions have been asked, this should more properly be "Questions I Think You are Frequently Going To Ask", but QITYFGA is much longer than FAQ.

Question 1: Where and When is "The Park" supposed to take place?

a) Where: The Park is located in a remote area of rural California, in an area known as the Central Valley, and more specifically The San Joaquin Valley in the southern part of the state. It has been called "The most productive unnatural environment on Earth", which I think fits the story exactly. (Wikipedia has a great entry on the San Joaquin Valley, btw.)

b) When, is now. As now is a fairly fluid concept, consider that the story starts in about April of 2008, three months after the community was hit by something called “The Accident” (Cue dramatic music!). Take heed, yon varlet, the hands of time shall stand still for no mortal, though occasionally a story will be set in the past, or future, as required by the story itself.

Question 2: What exactly is "The Accident", what did it do our residents?

a) I am not going to say exactly what "The Accident" was, unless you somehow manage to capture me, and threaten to beat it out of me. In that case, I will sing like bird!

b) Safe to say, "The Accident" is the standard "Spectacular Origin Event!" for our cast, as required by all comics’ conventions, the Geneva Convention, and convention ovens as far as I know. Apparently I have gotten my story all tangled up in a "Tarantino Panty Twist", and plan on telling you how it all got started in the middle, rather than in the beginning. Too much Pulp Fiction for my own good.

Question 3: What is your favorite curse word?

a) Stop watching so much James Lipton.

b) James Lipton

Question 4: Why Superheroes in a Trailer Park?

a) I think I have already answered this, better and longer elsewhere, but I will give you a summary. San Joaquin has 6 of the poorest 50 counties in the United States. That’s a huge number. These counties have poor air quality, are primarily agriculture focused, but are transforming into large metro areas, with very poor access to water. This is a looming human disaster if not carefully managed, and the recent example of Katrina leaves me with very little confidence that our Federal Government will be of any help should an "Accident" or disaster occur.

Question 5: Are you some kind of Liberal crusader?

a) Liberal? You bet.

b) Crusader? I left my armor and sword at the drycleaner. It’s a comic. If I can inform, and educate, great. If it is entertaining, even better. But damn little chance of doing some good. Think of it as my "I might be able to do good" lottery ticket. If everyone buys that kind of lotto, we might have something.
